Human Remains Detection Instructor / Evaluator
With more than 30 years of experience in canine operations, animal services, and emergency response, Sherri is a highly respected K9 handler, animal behavior specialist, and business owner with extensive expertise across Canada and the United States. His career has focused on Human Remains Detection (HRD), scent detection, municipal animal services, disaster response, and working dog training.
As the owner and operator of K9 Pest Management Inc. and its divisions from 1991 to 2021, he successfully managed large-scale municipal animal control contracts serving more than 700,000 residents across eight municipalities. His work included supervising animal control officers and kennel staff, operating an all-breed shelter and boarding kennel, implementing community cat TNR initiatives, and leading public education programs promoting responsible pet ownership.
Through Bye-Bye Birdie Goose Control Services, he developed humane wildlife management programs utilizing trained working dogs and provided handler training in compliance with Canadian Wildlife Service regulations. He also founded Elite Detection Dogs, specializing in bed bug scent detection and certification-level canine training programs.
In addition to his operational work, he owned and operated Maplelane Farm Event Centre for three decades, breeding and training Golden Retrievers that achieved titles in conformation, obedience, hunting, flyball, and disc sports. The facility hosted numerous canine sporting and rescue events and earned recognition as co-holder of a Guinness World Record for the largest number of dogs groomed and wearing bandanas.
Since 2017, he has worked extensively as a certified Human Remains Detection (HRD) K9 handler, participating in land-based HRD operations, disaster response, historical human remains investigations, and Indigenous community search initiatives, including investigations connected to residential schools. He has supported organizations such as PBMH (Please Bring Me Home), MUCCI (Missing Unidentified Cold Case Investigations), CUE (Community United Effort), and HOME (Helping Others Missing Everywhere).
His certifications include Advanced K9 Medic, Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue (TLAER), Crime Scene Preservation, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Animal Disaster First Responder, and Master Trainer certification through Tarheel Canine in North Carolina. He is also a current Canadian Kennel Club Scentwork Judge and former UKC and AKC Nosework Judge.
A lifelong advocate for animal welfare, emergency preparedness, and ethical canine training, he remains active in search and recovery operations, professional education, and film and television animal coordination for productions including Titans, The Wolf and the Lion, Strays, and other major projects. His contributions to the industry were recognized with the 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year award from the South Simcoe Business Awards.
